FAQ

This app provides information about food products, including whether the company is based in the USA and/or funded by American capital.

Barcode scanning: The user scans the product's barcode which retrieves the product's unique number.

Requests to external APIs: The application sends requests to external APIs such as Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Product Fact. These APIs return information (including the product's name and brand).

Checking in the blacklist: The retrieved brand name is then compared with the list in a JSON file (the blacklist). The comparison is performed using the "normalizedName" field, which standardizes the text (lowercase, without accents and with underscores).

A company is considered American if it belongs to an American group. For example, Vahiné, a French company, is regarded as American because it is part of the McCormick group. The place of manufacture is not considered. However, if an American company is owned by a non-American group, it is not classified as American (e.g. Ben & Jerry's, an American brand owned by the Anglo-Dutch multinational Unilever).

Our application currently references over 1500 supermarket product brands. However, some brands might be missing. If you notice a missing brand, please do not hesitate to send us an email at contact@detrumpez-vous.com so that we can update our directory.

You can download the app on the Google Play Store (Android) and on the App Store (IOS).
